The Story Behind CaregiverStrong
CaregiverStrong Institute was founded through shared personal experiences, professional expertise, and a deep commitment to supporting caregivers, families, and communities.
Our foundation comes from work across healthcare, education, research, rehabilitation, long-term care, and community leadership—but even more from real family caregiving experiences.
Learning to Care Differently was inspired by Denise’s experience across healthcare, research, education, long-term care, and family caregiving. It reflects the importance of seeing the person behind the diagnosis and strengthening relationships through compassion and understanding.
Turning Pain into Purpose was inspired by Belle’s belief that life’s challenges can become opportunities for growth, resilience, connection, and hope.
Together, these philosophies form the foundation of CaregiverStrong Institute.

Belle Lumani
My understanding of caregiving, advocacy, and grief is not learned from a textbook. It was born from being immersed in the thick of it.
Professional Expertise
Belle has spent years working directly within the healthcare system. Her background includes roles in hospital settings, home care, and long-term care facilities.
Personal Experience
Belle has walked alongside her own loved ones through serious illness, palliative care, and profound loss. She knows exactly how overwhelming these systems feel. Families are often exhausted, grieving, and trying to make impossible decisions under enormous emotional weight.
Her Mission
Belle founded the CaregiverStrong Institute to help families navigate these heavy practical and emotional realities. By learning to care differently and turning her pain into purpose, she is building a legacy that honors her family and betters our world.
Turning Pain into Purpose was inspired by Belle’s belief that difficult experiences can become a source of growth, resilience, connection, and hope.

Learning to Care Differently – Turning Pain into Purpose
At some point in our lives, nearly all of us will experience caregiving—whether as a caregiver, a family
member, a healthcare professional, a volunteer, or as someone navigating our own health journey.
The CaregiverStrong Institute was founded on a shared belief that every person deserves to be known
beyond their diagnosis, their age, or the circumstances they face. When we truly know someone’s story,
we are better equipped to provide compassionate, respectful, and person-centred care.
Through research, education, community engagement, and innovation, we are committed to inspiring a
new generation of caregivers and creating communities where every individual feels seen, heard, valued,
and understood.
